About 3 Howls Distillery

Founded in 2013 in the heart of Seattle's SoDo neighborhood, 3 Howls Distillery offers an award-winning lineup of Northwest-inspired spirits. Each 3 Howls product is handcrafted with distinct ingredients and designed to stand out, whether enjoyed alone or in your favorite drink. Producers of the award-winning 3 Howls Navy Strength Gin, our growing distillery today offers 12 unique products, including various styles of rum, vodka, whiskey, gin, and a host of 100% naturally flavored vapor-infused vodkas. All of 3 Howls' premium craft spirits are bottled, labeled and packaged by hand for your unadulterated enjoyment.

It is our mission is to create exceptional handcrafted spirits with our own specific Northwest flavor and flair for a uniquely Northwest experience.

The Distillery

This is where the magic happens. 3 Howls Distillery operates out of a 5,000-square-foot warehouse in Seattle's industrial SoDo neighborhood, home to its still and tasting room. Every spirit produced begins with a distinct base, whether it be the European malted barley featured in our Single Malt Whiskey or the sweet Barbados molasses in our White Label Rum. Fermented in state-of-the-art stainless steel tanks or an open-top cypress ferment tank, our spirits are distilled using a 300-gallon copper-packed still. Our naturally flavored vodkas and whiskeys are then vapor-infused for a truly unique flavor experience. Finally, all 12 of the 3 Howls premium craft spirits are bottled, labeled and packaged by hand for your unadulterated enjoyment.

Legend of the Cù-SìTh

Though we are proudly rooted in the Pacific Northwest, inspiration for 3 Howls comes from all the way across the pond. Ankle deep in a peat bog on a distillery tour in Isla, Scotland is where our founder, Will Maschmeier, first heard the story of the Cù-Sìth (pronounced koo-shee). Legend has it this giant hound roams Scotland's highlands and moors, howling three times before taking souls to the underworld. The three howls of the Cù-Sìth, combined with the act of bringing a part of the old world (the distilling practices of Scotland) to the new world (the Pacific Northwest), morphed together to form the brand now fondly known as 3 Howls Distillery.

Will Maschmeier
3 Howls founder, Will Maschmeier is an experimenter at heart. His concoctions began in a "mad-scientist" kitchen, complete with beakers of fermenting wort and rows of infused vodkas. Will trained at the Artisan Craft Distilling Institute, volunteered at local distilleries, and fermented anything he could get his hands on. After rounding out his skills with a bartending course, Will found his ultimate laboratory in SODO and has been crafting spirits

Craig Phalen
While Will was mixing and experimenting, Craig Phalen was working in IT for companies such as Microsoft and Vulcan. But underneath a passion for fine food and wine began to simmer. As a part of his work, Craig spent a great deal of time traveling and cultivating his taste for all things culinary. In 2007, he left IT behind and opened a bar and restaurant in Washington. Years later, he sold his business and began work on opening a distillery.

Warren Strasen
Known as the 3rd Howl, Warren Strasen comes into the team with over 25 years experience in bars, nightclubs and restaurants. He has a passion for fine spirits and cocktails. Warren trained at the Artisan Craft Distilling Institute and has taken several classes at the Seattle Central's Craft Distilling Institute.
